On Saturday 15 July, members from Kapunda, Balaklava, Maitland and Wallaroo Rifle Clubs (the clubs which form the 4 & 5 District Rifle Association) participated in the first stage of the Findlay Shield (4&5 DRA's Association Teams match) at Wallaroo Rifle Range, shooting 500 yards.
It was an overcast, showery day with just enough sunlight peeking through to be a nuisance. The wind kept things interesting for the coaches, but there were still a few possibles scattered across the boards, including a double from Maitland's David Hindmarsh (60.6 and 60.6 for a total 120.12).
Currently the scores are very tight, with Wallaroo Div 1 team in the lead by only a few centres 388.54 to Kapunda 1 on 388.37. Div 2 teams are only 1 point apart with Wallaroo 2 on 482.46 to Maitland 2's 481.37. Handicap scores see Maitland's Div 2 currently leading their Div 1 team by 4 centres 500.37 to 500.33.
A big thank you to all the members of Wallaroo Rifle Club who helped get the range ship-shape for yesterday and also to everyone who helped on the day (including those from other clubs), a great team effort kept things running smoothly.
We look forward to seeing everyone again at Kapunda in September for the second stage of the Findlay Shield at 700 yards.
